Bill there may be more to this photo than I realized. If you put in the Shenandoah River and launch at this point, you will have just come off of the Stonewall Jackson Highway, which is up the dark path to the right. If you follow the river and the light to the left, you go through Front Royal VA, which has a Confederate Museum & Monument...then to Harpers Ferry where John Brown committed treason in 1859 and was captured by Lee. But was then the hero by 1863 to folks loyal to the Union who wanted to abolish slavery. Then Lee became the one guilty of treason.. That's where the river flows into the Potomac on it's way past the Monocacy Battlefield...the battle that saved Washington from the rebels in 1864...on to the rocky rapids above Georgetown...and then it all smooths out as it passes the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Memorial, past the graves at Arlington and under the Francis Scott Key & Teddy Roosevelt Bridges . Much more of an allegory than I thought when it caught my eye.
Hurricane if you look for Carvell Rd, Rileyville, VA it will put the pin there on Google Maps. It's just off of Rt 340, between Front Royal and Luray. There is a campground close by and some B&Bs. There are also several canoe & kayak operations in the area.
That’s a beautiful capture, Mike.
Thanks Camilla. It was taken 9 years ago when we visited my sister at the river. It was a special "wind down" and be together time for us.
It reminds me of Thomas Cole’s “The Oxbow”. The light and dark are in reverse, but the visual effect is very much the same.
I believe the horrors that began on November 6 will "launch" a revolution.
Beautiful photo. Hopeful ideas.

Thanks for sharing. It is that time. I seek the river.
If you ever want to canoe this piece of heaven, I can give you the location which is on the Shenandoah River. There's a nice B&B very close by.
Oh the Shenandoah is beautiful and not far. Please share.
