Things have changed

I was in college at Towson when Watergate came to a boil and 2 journalists from the Washington Post followed the money and the story that Deepthroat encouraged them to follow all the way to the Oval Office. We all found out how Tricky, Dick really was. Nixon and his people tried hard to cover it up, but there were these secret tapes that the paranoid President made of his conversations in the Oval. They were profane, bigoted…not very flattering…and proved he was a liar. The GOP Senators who had tried to protect him finally said, “Mr. President, you need to resign or we will force you out of office.” Dick knew he had no trump card, no Ace in the hole to play. He folded and left, with a tiny amount of dignity and then his freshly appointed VP pardoned him. That’s how it worked in the mid 70’s…and by the way I got Carl Berstein’s autograph on my paperback copy of “All the President’s Men” when he spoke at Towson and I was TD of the show.

Things have changed in 50 years. Donald John Trump stirred up a riot at the Capitol in an attempt to subvert the peaceful transfer of power. This is factual and proven over and over. Numerous GOP Senators, Congressmen, Cabinet Members, staffers & other Trump appointee’s said that they “were through” with him, he was “unfit” for the job…and a lot of other things that were not supportive of DJT. A few resigned…a few like Liz Cheney did their duty to help impeach him. Would Trump resign…no, of course not. It wasn’t his fault…in fact he created and perfected the “BIG LIE”. The election was stolen from him.

Trump does leave office, but not politely…not with dignity, not like every other person who was elected to the office and then lost or served out their terms. He never concedes. Now it’s 2024 and many of the same Senators who said they had enough of him, that he was unfit have now endorsed him to be elected again. They are openly supporting “Captain Chaos” for POTUS….it boggles my mind.

Here’s my suggestion. The 2 Senators who I personally find most egregious, who actually seem to have a sense of history are Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham. Write them, call their offices, fax them, tell them how disappointed you are, how angry that they have no ethics left, no backbone, have lost their love of America, and have been blinded by power lust. Let’s swamp them. They know he’s dangerous. It doesn’t have to be long…just honest and factual. Here’s the photo to inspire you.
