Shallowman

The S is not for "super"

With the new Superman film out and doing so well at the box office there seems to be some confusion about Don’s use of the costume and the S on his chest. I think it actually stands for shallowman….

so MAGA doesn’t have to be upset that their hero might be associated with Woke…which the real Superman has been from the beginning.

One of my earliest memories as a child was Superman on our little Black & White TV…being the good guy, frighting crime and doing it with his alter ego changing clothes in a phone both. I had other heroes with capes like Zorro and Batman

who were always helping the little guy, not get hurt by the evil villain who was trying to get more wealth and power. Shallowman didn’t get the intended message that Hollywood was sending. He was attracted to the folks who were trying to get all the gold and did not care if that hurt people.

My theory is that shallowman’s sense of what America is, was created by other TV shows and films he watched while growing up like The Grey Ghost and the Rebel with their Confederate heroes

and Wagon Train and Gunsmoke

where you only saw the white settlers as the good guys…the Indians were just savages who got in the way and killed people moving west….and the John Wayne films like the Alamo and Stagecoach.

I liked all of those shows and films too as a kid and if my sense of what America is ended with that I might believe in shallowman. But these things just stoked my curiosity, they helped make me interested in history. So I read books and learned that what many of these films portrayed was just a slice of the story…or a romantic, sanitized, white centric version of the story. I learned about broken treaties and trying to create a country based on protecting slavery and much more.

I believe that a big part of the problem with shallowman is that he does not read and is not very curious about our past. He likes the simple 1950’s version he grew up with and he embraces that. All of this real history new study just gets in the way of the narrative he embraces and wants to force on the Smithsonian and NPS.

So I don’t think that MAGA needs to fret about the S on Don’s costume choice of the moment…but that Epstein thing might still be a problem for shallowman.
