Shakespeare
has a quote for everything
Over the past week I’ve been looking more to our 1776 Founders and to Lincoln for inspiration and reflection on what we are collectively going through….and I’ve found a lot of good quotes and thoughts on democracy, voting, tyranny…all of that and more.
The Founders were an impressive group of white guys with property. They got us out from under a mad monarch with a LOT of help from the “average” folks who had risked everything to immigrate here and from France….along with some help from formerly enslaved and enslaved folks….and women. It was a collective effort for Freedom.
Lincoln wrote the best short speech ever…and has a lot of good quotes.
and we have taken what they created and continually evolved it forward…slowly…but steadily forward.
But who inspired them ? Who wrote about big moments? Kings, Queens? Witches, soldiers, priests….? Lovers? The Bard was prolific and VERY quotable….
and was performed a lot in the colonies and new states...there was this Booth family from Maryland who were the best at it for a long time.
This feels like a Shakespearean moment in our history. There are 2 key characters…with a LOT of supporting characters…on stage and off….but the spotlight is totally on them today….and what plays out on our national stage will affect us all for years to come. As Ed Sullivan would say, “This is a REALLY big show.”

We all are players in this interactive drama. We all do have a role…like none in our lifetime.
Some of it is scripted on tele-prompters…but a lot of the really good stuff is like Robin Williams or John Belushi just vamping on a theme.

This is the biggest and most real, “reality show” on earth and
“Survivor” seems to be the theme.
As Bette Davis said, “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride”.
Peace & Love to all
