Puerto Rico
was delightful
At some point in my career about 15-18 years ago I was part of a large production team that did a 2 week gig in Puerto Rico. Yes, I got paid to be there.
It was a totally wonderful experience. Lincoln Financial was the client and they brought hundreds of their top sellers there for motivational & educational seminars and a lot of partying and golf. The entertainment was the Doobie Bros for the big event.
They brought in 2 different groups for 4 days each, so there was break in the middle for 2 days and the crew got to go check things out.
The rain forest was magnificent and we had a great time exploring the old historic town of San Juan and the Castillo was VERY impressive.
They have a great sense of their history and preservation.
My wife joined me at the end of the gig and we traveled to the small Puerto Rican island of Vieques to have our own get away.
You can take a passenger ferry, but we elected to fly over in a 4-5 seat puddle jumper. That was some bumpy fun. One of the main reasons we wanted to go there is the bright bioluminescent bay at Mosquito Bay. It’s one of the few left in the world.
The reason it still exists there is because the water is so clean and unpolluted. What a wonderful experience, kayaking through this glowing water with more stars than I’ve ever seen at one time. You feel the size of the universe…from the little glowing one cell organisms to the far reaches of the galaxy.
The island has several beautiful horseshoe beaches, that our military used to use for invasion practice. We also did bombing runs over the forests…but that stopped years ago.
We were often the only people there…or just one or 2 other couples. It’s the kind of island experience you dream about. We were staying at an old Sugar Plantation with a pool that looked out over the ocean.
There’s only 8,000 people on the island and 2 small towns…one on each coast. Horses walk around like puppy dogs and you see the occasional iguana walk down the street.
I wish that I had my photos, but they were on a hard drive that died. The Super Bowl occurred while we were there and the hotel bar set up a big screen on their flat roof to have a party. The techs setting it up were missing one connector to make it all work. I had a small gig box with me and had the little BNC that they needed. We did not have to buy any margaritas that night. Best Super Bowl party ever.
I highly recommend the experience to those who have not been there. Actually now I want to go back…we could put together a tour.
Peace

Mike, thanks for the antidote. Well played,
Why haven't these American citizens been provided with statehood and some electoral votes? :)
