live events...

Over the course of my fifty year career making videos and working live events I’ve worked with and for hundreds of political candidates for office, elected representatives, appointed staff and cabinet members and their spouses and spokespeople. I was the volunteer of the month once for the MD Republican political party (this was 40 years ago when Mac Mathias was our US Senator, he’d be a BIG time RHINO now) because I helped to train new people running for office on how to do a hostile media interview and how to deliver an effective speech…and in all of that time, I’ve never witnessed any debacle as bad as the one I witnessed on the news last night from DJT’s performance at the NABJ in Chicago….

with one possible exception…

and that was when the incumbent Mayor of Hagerstown…who was ahead in the polls by about 20 points…disappeared from his office at City Hall in the middle of his 2nd run for office and could not be found . It was International news.

His family and his campaign staff handled it so badly that he lost by over 20 points. The same state party people that declared me volunteer of the month, brought me in to try and fix it. There was not enough gaffers tape, lighting tricks, editing or filters on the planet to fix this mess. We tried…I shot a prepared statement by him in a hotel room across the street from the hospital where he had retreated for treatment of his depression. ( he was a nice guy…nothing like Trump) It was VERY sad…but they choose to keep him in the race and air his statement on local TV…. (today with social media that video would have gone viral) and behind the scenes…all we could do, was laugh hysterically at how ridiculous it was…and drink…and not say anything to the public.

In those days I was a “hired gun” and worked with a couple more political meltdowns during campaigns. They both won…but their meltdown was just a few days before the election…not 99 days out. I walked away from doing partisan political work for campaigns because my moral compass could not deal with it… and started working live events where I had no input into the content. I felt that was a freedom of speech thing…I’ve worked on events for both sides…but I’ve never and will never work for a Tump event…no matter the money.

Joe made the right choice for himself and for all of the rest of us by dropping out.

Yesterday afternoon before the news of last night we were hearing some people say…”how can anyone vote for that woman ?”

I have to wonder how many are saying that today ?

If they are, I hope that Donald takes a few more invitations to converse on stage with organizations outside of his rallies and his base…and I REALLY hope he decides to debate. As Harris said “bring it on”. Let’s continue to witness the “Emperor” without his clothes.
