On the Road again
History is alive and well
I’ve been pretty subdued here for awhile, largely because I didn’t want to just pile on to the daily horror show unfolding all around us. I wanted to reflect on more positive aspects of our lives…now and in the past. So I have good news to report. I’ve become pretty immersed in several history projects.
In September we spent a lot of time documenting the transfer of an A-10 Thunderbolt or “Warthog” attack fighter plane from the 175th Air Wing of the Maryland Air National Guard to the Hagerstown Aviation Museum.
It’s been an honor and privilege to document this process….more about it later.
While I’m talking about museums there is a small museum in Boonsboro MD that my friend Doug Bast started years ago with his private collection of very diverse and eclectic artifacts. Doug was the historical advisor on a TV series, “Treasure Search” that we helped produce back in the 80’s and early 90’s. Doug is in the center below.
He passed on 3 years ago and I’m helping the non-profit organization who wish to preserve the collection and make it more accessible and the 2 museum buildings more useful to the community.
More will be coming about that in the future.
About a month ago Ron Maxwell who wrote the scripts and directed “Gettysburg” and “Gods and Generals” called me with a connection to a new Civil War documentary. I talked with Ron’s contact, Roland about his concept…researched it some…brought in Darren to help with production and we signed a development deal 8 days ago.
I just got back from a 40 hour road trip to the Richmond/Petersburg area. This was sunrise on the James River Wednesday morning.
We are going to have a good time and tell a little known CW story. Stay tuned for news on that.
December 6 will be the 35th Annual Illumination at Antietam. We have been documenting it for years. About 1500 volunteers, many of them Boy Scouts and school groups place 23,110 luminaries on the field of battle…and folks drive through, starting at 6 PM. If you can make it there you will not be disappointed.
photo by Judi Quelland who documented the event with her brother Bo for 25 years. She has notecards available on her Etsy shop.
The 2 museums I mentioned above are both in the area…you can visit them also. That’s a wrap for this morning. Stay tuned in for more.
I need to check and see if Heather has published her letter for today.
Be well and peace to all.

So glad to hear about your projects! Good stuff!
Keep us in the loop as things progress. Helpful for brain balancing during these torturous times.
Great photos, as usual.
