Music heals the Tribe
Hot fun in the summertime
I’m weary of the Joe & Don horse race/sideshow/political theatre and just want to have some fun, which I’m doing tonight by going to see one of my drumming hero’s, the 80 year old Jaimoe who is playing shows during his birthday month with Friends of the Brothers. Jaimoe is seen here with one of my other heroes, his drumming partner of 45 years, Butch the “Freight Train” Trucks.
This man has been playing professionally since he was about 16…so that’s what? 64 years….most of that with the Allman Bros Band. Jaimoe is the last man standing as the other 5 have all passed on.
They brought it every night…they created the genre of “Southern Rock”. Jaimoe was the first to jam with Duane Allman in the months before the other 4 founding members would fall into place…and he’s now the only one left of the 6.
Many musicians don’t retire…they just play until there’s nothing left. Col Bruce Hampton died on stage doing what he loved most. Seen here with Jimmie Herring of Widespread Panic.
Mick and Keith are still playing out, here with the legendary Buddy Guy at the Beacon Theatre…This is my all time favorite live performance video…grown AARP aged men playing the Blues like teenagers (with 300 years experience…and pure joy…no phoning it in)
Clapton, Mark Knopfler…here a little bit younger…
and a lot more of my generations favorite musicians and bands….and there’s a ton of Tribute bands to the REALLY good music of the 60’s and 70’s. Here’s Brother & Sister at Peach Fest playing Stormy Monday, with Melody & Vaylor Trucks
Who do you like and why? Let’s talk…
I dug into my archives and here’s a few videos to inspire you to go support live music this summer…
have fun…dance…tip the band…applaud good solos…buy merch…most of these folks work for $100 a man or less for a 3-4 hour gig
that includes the cost of their gear, rehearsal time, getting to the gig and setting up…tearing down…you do it because you love it…not to make a million bucks…that’s a small pool of people, just like NFL stars, NBA stars…be kind to the band…they need the love, especially in this heat.
Here’s the Fitzkee Bros at the 8x10 in Baltimore a few weeks ago with the tune that was the first Allman Bros jam, Trouble no More. They will be back with Melody Trucks ( Butch’s daughter) and her “Road to Roots” tour at Zen West and a lot more East Coast venues starting soon.
I imagine that Trouble no More may be on Alan Paul’s set list tonight. CJ thanks for all you do to keep this music alive and well.
…turn off the TV…go to a bar, go to a festival, go to a vineyard…whatever, wherever and live a little. Hang with the tribe.
Love and Peace to all

great stuff. I’m getting juiced for Roots
