MAGA Halloween

It's haunting

I’m trying to imagine the Halloween party at Mar-a-lago tonight and appropriate costumes. While Trump as Hitler is getting a lot of play recently, I really think that a Gone with the Wind theme is much more appropriate…with Trump in his best Jeff Davis outfit.

and Melania as “I’ll think about it tomorrow” Scarlett.

Jeff doesn’t get a lot of love in Civil War circles. It’s much more Lincoln and Lee. I’m editing a gala fundraiser done for the Gettysburg Foundation by author Jeff Shaara, actor Steven Lang and historian Harold Holzer and Davis does not get mentioned once in 90 minutes. Lang turns Lincoln, Lee, Buford and some others into a one man show. Watch for that soon.

Tonight should be Jeff Davis night to shine for MAGA folks. Show him some love. He should be the patron saint of lost causes.

When I was working the Civil War re-enactment event tour years ago…(35 events one year) there was an event in Alabama and they always had a big party at an old mansion on Saturday night. It was Tara come to life with a huge CSA flag hanging from the balcony, a string band, mint juleps served by black waiters and women in hoop skirts everywhere.

Most of the men were some kind of confederate officer or a rich planter. I assume that many of them are MAGA today. So they have been doing this costume party for a long time.

I can just imagine Mar-a-lago like that tonight. I think Trump really fits the Jeff Davis character. Let’s divide the country against itself and then put it through hardship like it’s never seen. Create widows, orphans, loss of property while dancing to Dixie. It’s a spooky scenario.

There could be some cross burning on the lawn. But it’s Halloween…it’s all in fun.

Maybe Musk the multi billionaire nerd could go as Rhett Butler (he wishes) …just in it for the money, until it is a lost cause…

and then he goes off to war when he knows it’s lost and leaves pouty Scarlett and poor pregnant Melanie behind to fend for themselves…that made a lot of sense…????

If I was going to the party (fat chance) to observe and report back what would I be ? Mathew Brady is too easy. Maybe Belle Whatling.

She had the biggest heart and took care of people, even when they shunned her….it’s a great costume and a man in a dress drinking champagne would make them all crazy. But Rudi might be doing this one too…choices…

No one at this party is going to be Lincoln or Grant. They messed up all the fun trying to create a nation where slavery is legal and central to your existence. Dam 19th century Republicans….

You know there are at least 14-15 ghost tours in Gettysburg these days. I wonder what the spirits there will be thinking tonight ?
