Maybe we shouldn't have stopped sun worship. I'm tempted to quote from a George Carlin routine where he said that he became a sun worshiper. The routine was " Religion is Bullshit ".
Dan, without the sun, just where it is, at that size, we are nothing...and the water is the other essential. I understand sun worship. I can see it. It's consistent and regular and essential...
There would be NO CEREMONIES, although just about EVERY CIVILIZATION recognized the Sun's importance. AND Constantine never really stopped being a sun - worshiper, even when trying to recapture the Roman empire in a nominally " Christian " fashion.
I believe there are about 4000 religions or "faiths" on the planet. That itself says to me how lightly evolved we are. Not to disparage anyone's belief system if it leads to treating each other and the Earth well.
Back to your point. Maybe some sort of "sun worship" with a dash of Tao would work for me. But truthfully, the FSM does have a hold on me - especially on Fridays. R'Amen.
What was that Arthur C. Clark story, The 1 Million Names of God ? A computer tabulated them, & the universe starts disappearing ? We don't want that happening.....
I like the Indian use of "the one with no name"...I think there is "stuff" going on in the spiritual universe most of us don't understand...but not the way the major religions like to use for control. Nature is where I feel the "creator" most...not in some building with a book.
I will quote the late, great Frank Lloyd Wright about God / gods, etc. : " I believe in God. I just call him ' Nature ' ". I call God the universe, myself. Drives my super - hyper Evangelical cousin NUTS / NUTTIER.....
Good quote from a guy who really knew how to design a place to live with nature....folks who get so caught up in "their way" is the only way...what can I say....

I actually do a sort of Native American thing to Mother Earth, Father Sky ( to infinity and beyond) and the 4 directions many days. It works for me.

Not only a breathtaking picture, Mike, but a reminder of the potential each day holds to make a difference in the world.
