I have spent much of the first half of 2023 researching and working on a documentary titled “Monumental Struggle” and it has really been one. It’s focused on the move of the Talbot Boys monument from it’s position in front of the courthouse in Easton MD to the battlefield at Cross Keys VA, on Artillery Ridge. If you’ve read previous scenes from my writing here, you’ll be somewhat familiar. It’s become much broader and deeper than where we started. I’m still working on it, but I’m putting that pot on a back burner for awhile and turing up the heat on our documentary “Fishin’ with Duane”.
Now that I know we’re not collectively going over the edge next week, I can relax and enjoy the summer. We have several events coming up that relate directly to the doc and we just shot at one last week in DE, near President Biden’s summer place. We had a great time and the project keeps coming more into focus and moving forward.
Butch Trucks daughter Melody has basically taken her dad’s music camp Roots Rock Revival on the road and will be doing some touring with the Fitzkee Bros and some other young Jedi musicians from the camp this summer.
We are planning to be at and shoot at Peach Fest and then Roots Rock Revival…and some additional opportunities. I’d like to get to Macon for GABBA Fest…so watch here for more info, how you can participate and postcards from the edge.
Bob Beatty and his book “Play all night” has been very inspirational and helpful. Check out his substack.
Duane Allman only had a three year run with his dream creation band, but the ripple out effects are huge. I want to see the chart of influences that created the ABB…and then the ripple out over the last 50 years and where it’s headed….the road does go…and I find that “Monumental Struggle” is very related to “Fishin’ with Duane”. Just watch and see.
More news and reflections coming soon.
Peace y’all…
thanks for the shout out Mike! Butch was the chief apostle in the church of Duane Allman. RRR is a continuation of Duane’s legacy in so many ways.
I had hoped Butch would see, and like, ‘Play All Night.’ I think he would have.
Long live the Allman Brothers Band! 🍄
