Help children to grow & improve ?

I found the nomination of Wrestling mogul Linda McMahon to be pretty stunning on the face of it. Someone whose career has nurtured the world of faux violence for profit for many years.

So I did some research on the people who have held this important position.

It starts during Ike’s term with Oveta Culp Hobby in April 1953, the year I was born. A Texan, she was the publisher, editor of the Houston Times. During WWII she headed up the WACs for FDR, became a Colonel in the US Army and was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Service Medal.

As Director of Health Education & Welfare she approved the Polio Vaccine for use. Ike encouraged her to run for POTUS in 1960 in the primary against Nixon.

Her husband had health issues and she declined…maybe I should just stop there with the comparison ?

What I found, Republican or Democrat was list of people with deep resumes in Education, elected office, working on Civil Rights, Social Security, one created PBS and as a group they have won many prestigious awards.

I just want to highlight a few. Elliott Richardson served under Nixon. He was a Harvard graduate and a combat medic in Viet Nam. After Education, Nixon made him Attorney General. Seen here on the left.

Betsey DeVoss was Trumps pick in 2016. It was the first time in the history of the position that the Senate vote was tied 50-50 to approve the choice.

Mike Pence broke the tie. After the Jan 6 riot, she resigned from the cabinet.

The current Sec Ed is Miguel Cardona who came up through the ranks of education professionals.

He was a teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent, College Professor, State Chair of the Education Commission before his nomination by President Biden. He was approved with a wide margin.

So back to Linda McMahon. I thought she was a poor choice right away…but then I saw this video and that put my disgust over the top. Anyone who would act this scene out on a stage witnessed by many for her to profit from made my head spin. She used her children in a disgusting theatrical display of a totally dysfunctional family. My wife who has been an education specialist in the “trenches” for 25 years was totally incredulous at this display. She has worked to create a nurturing environment where children can grow and learn safely. Her classroom was where bullies go to the Peace Table to work out problems with other children. The resolution is not a wrestling match. Here’s the video
