A camera persons reflections
getting started in this new forum
This thought process began almost 2 weeks ago as I read Heather Cox Richardson’s letter about Antietam…something I know a little bit about. I wanted to tell her how “perfect” I felt her piece was…but I needed to subscribe to do that. So I anted up the $5 and discovered this world of engaged individuals. The conversations were fast and lively and I entered into several, from topics as varied as Stonewall Jacksons death to the fracking ban in Maryland.
I’ve been interested in cameras, photography and movies since I was a child. My first regular paying job was operating a large b&w TV camera in an educational TV studio. For much of my career I’ve been a “hired gun” working for whoever paid me. Corporations, non-profits, politicians, musicians, attorneys, mothers of the bride…it’s pretty varied and I like that. I’ve actually worked for both sides of an issue…once in the same day, they rented the same piece of equipment to show their very different videos… I have learned a little about a lot of things, gotten different perspectives and have some entertaining dinner stories. Some of my life is a little like Forrest Gump…being on the edge of history or magic.
From some of the conversations that came out of Heathers post on Antietam I posted my documentary titled “Fracking Western Maryland?” . It’s the single piece of work I’m most proud of, because of the process and the result. Here it is….let’s have a conversation about it
