Womanless Pageants
There’s a lot of conversation this morning bouncing off of Heather Cox Richardson’s Substack letter of the day. In response and to illuminate some of that here’s some thoughts and visuals. I did research a few years ago for an event titled “History is a Drag”.
In that research I don’t recall any great outcry about Flip Wilson or Jonathan Winters when they did regular female impersonation characters on national prime time TV in the 60’s and 70’s…???
If you go back and watch some of these routines on YouTube there is a LOT of sexual innuendo. I don’t recall any right wing backlash to censor them or take them off of the air. What’s changed ?
The other item which relates to the photo of Gov Lee of TN in a cheerleaders outfit is what’s known as “Womanless Beauty Pageants” which have occurred for years, mostly in southern high & middle schools. Here are 2 identified as a Florida Middle School
And I love this one with the “Rebels” scoreboard.
So my take away from all of this is it’s ok for folks in the south to “groom” their children with an actual crossdressing experience…but it’s not ok for a drag queen to read a book to kids. I’m totally befuddled by this logic…what would Bugs think ?
It’s amazing every man in the US isn’t wearing a dress at lest some of the time.
